24th November 2022 | Hong Kong
The United States Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) has released the 5-year strategic plan for FY2022 to 2026, with 3 primary goals – 1. Protect investors against fraud, manipulation & misconduct 2. Develop regulatory framework to keep pace with markets, business models & technology 3. Support a skilled workforce. United States SEC Chair Gary Gensler: “Our capital markets touch all Americans’ lives, whether they’re saving for the future, borrowing for a mortgage, taking out an auto loan, or working for a company that raises money from the public. That’s why it is critical that the SEC continue to evolve and modernize our rulesets as technology, business models, and our markets change. Our Strategic Plan will help guide these efforts and advance our work to protect American families, keep pace with ever-changing times, and invest in our talented staff.” The United States SEC oversees $100 trillion capital markets, representing about 40% of the capital markets worldwide (Annual trading of around $118 trillion in U.S. equity markets, $2.8 trillion in exchange-traded equity options, and $237 trillion in the fixed income markets).
