Rockefeller Capital Management, the spinoff from Rockefeller & Co and once the family office of American oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller, is targeting $200 billion AUM (Assets under Management) in 3 to 5 Years from the current $90 billion AUM by expanding offices and hiring more Private Wealth Managers.  Rockefeller Capital Management had increased its AUM from $18 billion in 2018 to $90 billion in 2022.  In 2018, Rockefeller Capital Management was formed by the injection of Rockefeller & Co, which was managing $18 billion of assets serving HNWs, UHNWs, foundations, endowments and corporations.  Rockefeller Capital Management is headed by President and CEO Gregory Fleming, who previously was President of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and  President & Chief Operating Officer of Merrill Lynch.  Rockefeller Capital Management currently has around 250 private wealth managers and aim to have 400 to 500 private wealth managers in 3 – 5 years.

In 2018, Rockefeller Capital Management was formed by the injection of Rockefeller & Co, which was managing $18 billion of assets serving HNWs, UHNWs, foundations, endowments and corporations.  Rockefeller & Co was once the family office of American oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller.  Rockefeller Capital Management is headed by President and CEO Gregory Fleming, who previously was President of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and  President and Chief Operating Officer of Merrill Lynch.  On founding in 2018, he set a goal of growing Assets under Management to $100 billion within 5 years (2023).

Rockefeller Capital Management is owned by a trust representing the broader Rockefeller family, the firm’s management and hedge fund Viking Global Investors.  The Board of Rockefeller Capital Management includes Gregory Fleming; Rockefeller family members David Rockefeller, Jr. and Peter M. O’Neill; Reuben Jeffery III of the former Rockefeller & Co.; and Brian Kaufmann of Viking. 

 

Gregory J. Fleming

Gregory J. Fleming is the Chief Executive Officer of Rockefeller Capital Management, a role he has held since the firm, formerly known as Rockefeller & Co., launched in March 2018. He is also a member of the Board of Directors.

Prior to leading Rockefeller Capital Management, Greg was the President of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and Morgan Stanley Investment Management. Before joining Morgan Stanley in 2010, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Merrill Lynch, from 2007 to 2009, and previously ran Merrill Lynch’s Global Investment Banking business. Greg joined Merrill Lynch as an investment banker in 1992. He had also been a principal at Booz Allen Hamilton.

He is a former director of Colgate University, a member of the Board of Advisors for the Yale Law School Center for the Study of Corporate Law; a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Economic Club of New York and a trustee at Deerfield Academy.  He also serves as a Resource Council member of the Turn 2 Foundation and serves on the Advisory Board of COVR, an innovative financial services startup.

Greg is a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of Colgate University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School.
